The church is hexagonal in shape, with upholstered pews to accommodate up to 190 people. The Communion Rail and Table are circular to symbolising the “togetherness” of the congregation and are crafted in stainless steel, as is the alms dish in the shape of a scallop shell, a symbol of pilgrimage and a reminder of the apostle James’ zeal and missionary spirit. A beautiful semi-circular coloured window is placed behind the rail, designed and constructed by King & Son of Norwich, renowned stained glass specialists.
Above the Table hangs a central light with twelve surrounding lights symbolising Christ and his disciples. The Pulpit is shaped like the prow of a boat, and the Font is crafted in aluminium and in the form of a womb. The Font and the Lectern are removable, providing space for small dramas, sketches, and other performances at the front. Three lights hang above the Pulpit, Lectern, and Cross, paying homage to the Holy Trinity. Finally, a rough-hewn Cross stands 10 feet tall and can be illuminated from the rear.
The church is part of the area’s Warm Spaces for All initiative and is open on Tuesday from 10 am to 4 pm, offering a warm drink with soup and a roll at lunchtime.
