Cycling Routes In the Sheringham Area

Sheringham and the surrounding areas offer some fantastic cycling for all ages and abilities. From quiet country lanes to pulsating mountain bike trials, Sheringham has something for everyone in all seasons.

Here are some recommended routes in the area, kindly provided by Ben Harvey of Sea and Pine Bikes (bike hire).

 

Sheringham Park / Kelling Heath / Weybourne Beach

A family favourite, where you get to see the best of the beloved National Trust Estate -Sheringham Park, enjoy a visit to one of the famous Poppy Line’s steam train stations and then follow the train line as it skirts passed Kelling Heath before coasting down to Weybourne Beach.

Along the route you’ll find local cafes and the highly acclaimed Ship Inn, for you to stop off and enjoy some refreshment. Weybourne is also home to The Muckleburgh Military Collection which is well worth a visit to find out about the area’s military past. Due to the geography of the region this ride does include a few hills.

Sheringham Park / Baconsthorpe Castle / Blickling Hall

If your idea of a perfect bike ride is sailing along quiet country roads, passing through picturesque scenery and stopping off every now and then for refreshments at lovely local pubs then this is the route for you!

Your start will take you through the beautiful Sheringham Park and on to the historic ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle. You’ll then journey into the heart of North Norfolk’s bucolic countryside to the charming town of Itteringham before arriving at the gorgeous National Trust property, Blickling Hall. Take time to travel into the past with a tour of the impressive stately home and gardens before hopping back on your bikes to journey around the grounds before heading back to Sheringham for an ice-cream, you’ve earned it! This tour is mostly on-road and does include some hills.

Coast Road / Holt / Steam Train

If you’re looking for a bike ride that tours the gorgeous coastal towns of North Norfolk then this is the route for you. Set out through the beautiful Sheringham Park estate, passing Weybourne Steam Train Station before heading on to the iconic ‘Coast Road’.

Along this winding road you’ll see some of the most stunning scenery that this area of outstanding natural beauty has to offer.

Make time to stop off for a dressed crab or lobster salad at the unrivalled Cookies Crab Shop or enjoy the delicious food on offer at The Dun Cow Inn, in Salthouse. Delve into Britain’s military past at the Muckleburgh Military collection and join the twitchers at Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s Nature Reserve in Cley, before a visit to meet Desmond, the star of the BBC 2 show ‘Normal for Norfolk’ at the lovely Wiveton Café. After a quick stop to cool your feet in the Glandford Ford a cross country path takes you to the peaceful wildlife gardens of Natural Surroundings. From there you’ll journey into the historic Georgian town of Holt, filled with charming shops and cafes.

If you’re running a little low on pedal power, you may choose to hop on the steam train at Holt Station back to Sheringham. This is a ride best achieved with plenty of time factored in for stops to really explore the best North Norfolk has to offer. Due to the geography of the area, there are a few hills to climb on this route and the majority of the ride is on-road cycling.

Sheringham Woods / Felbrigg Hall / West Runton Beach

This stunning ride takes you through Sheringham’s beautiful woodland and heaths to the glorious National Trust Property, Felbrigg Hall and Gardens. After touring the estate, our ride takes you whizzing down to the lovely coastal town and beach of West Runton, before a ride along the coast road back in to Sheringham. Along the way you’ll spot cafes and pubs, including the gorgeous Cornerhouse Café, whose lunches and cakes are loved by locals and visitors alike. This is a fun and lively ride with some rugged terrain and occasional hilly parts.
