Sheringham is a vibrant, traditional seaside town, quintessentially English, with an award-winning Blue Flag beach. It’s a family-friendly environment with a heritage steam railway, theatre, museum, swimming pool, boating lake, bowling club, pitch and put, links golf course and Sheringham Park.
Many independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants line the high street, giving the town a unique feel and an outstanding shopping experience. Not to mention our excellent accommodation establishments.
In the centre of the town stands Sheringham’s focal point — the town clock, dating back to 1862, where it started life as a water well.
Once an old fishing village, Sheringham still has a small fleet of working crab and lobster boats. These can be seen on both the East and West fishing slopes.
Sheringham is also part of the Deep History Coast Discovery Trail and has its own Discovery Point down on the promenade.
The promenade spans many beaches and is adorned with colourful beach huts. The sandy beaches span for miles at low tide, exposing rock pools, chalk beds and many hidden treasures. There are many amenities, including toilets, showers, beach hut hire, seven cafes on the promenade, and paddle board hire for the more adventurous. We are lucky to see sunrise and sunset on our East and West facing beaches.

There are many trails and footpaths around Sheringham on the Norfolk Coast Path. Explore Beeston Bump The Common, Sheringham Woods leading to Pretty Corner and the jewel in the crown, Sheringham Park. Challenge yourself with Norfolk’s three peaks, Beeston Bump, Incleborough and Skelding Hill, a dog walkers’ paradise.
The town’s name Sheringham is Scandinavian in origin and means The Ham of Scira’s people. To qualify as a Sheringham Shannock, you have to be born in Sheringham, and your parents and Grandparents were also Sheringham born and bred.
Nearby National Trust locations and properties include Sheringham Park; Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate; Blickling Hall; West Runton and Beeston Regis Heath; Morston Quay; Blakeney National Nature Reserve; all just a stone’s throw away. North Norfolk is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with rare visiting birds and a wealth of nature reserves.
So come and visit this extraordinary natural beauty area with its wide open beaches, dominating cliffs and fabulous walks. Tuck into some glorious fish and chips and watch the sunset. You’ll never want to leave.
